Your Tasks

With your work you will tackle two of the biggest challenges Scantinel is facing at the moment:

Downsizing the volume of our lidar system by 90% in the next year and by 98% within the next 3 years.

"Our current lidar system size is in the range of a small printer, which you know from home. Our ambitious goal is to trim it down to a size of an iphone package within 3 years." 

Setting the baseline for bringing our system to serial production:

  • Status Quo: proof of concept, batch size 10 

  • Target in year 1: batch size 100 

  • Target in year 3-4: high volume production for automotive industry

The main tasks at work will be:

  • Create the photonic packaging concept for advanced integrated optical sensors 

  • Create chip and module packaging specifications and drive their implementation in close cooperation with international technology partners 

  • Testing and qualifying the packaged components 

  • Selecting partners and sub-contractors for chip and module packaging 

 
 

Your Team

The team consists of 6 experts in the field of mechanics, optics and photonics to conceptualize, test and build the lidar system. Frank Gindele, your supervisor, will give you an overview about his background and some insights about the team:

Your Profile

What we expect from you ...

  • Master or PhD in engineering or science – related to optics, electronics or photonics

  • 3 years of experience in photonic packaging, integration

  • Fluent English

  • Hands-on mentality

... and this is a big plus

  • Skills in Matlab, Labview C++

  • Experience with low to high volume production ramp-up

  • Experience in cooperation with external partners – e.g. supplier management

Ulm with its 125.000 inhabitants is located the south of German between Stuttgart (1h) and Munich (1,5h) and is well known for its high-tech companies in and around the city. It offers everything you need to enjoy your life - from restaurants, culture and clubs over various possibilities for outdoor activities to big festivals in summer and winter. Closely to the Alps (1h by car) it allows you to go for a hike whenever you feel like to.
